Executions Have Resumed in South Carolina
On September 20, 2024, South Carolina resumed executions after a 13-year hiatus. The South Carolina Supreme Court has indicated it will issue execution warrants for the five men listed above over the coming months. The Court stated it intends to schedule these executions at intervals of 5 weeks (or 35 days) unless circumstances warrant a longer interval. The above list is the order of executions as outlined by the Court’s order. We remain concerned about the lack of transparency surrounding the executions and especially the source and composition of drugs the Department of Corrections is using for lethal injection executions. Without this information, it is impossible for our attorneys to advise their clients on their choice between methods of execution and to protect their clients from a painful and lingering death.
